Gregg O
grew up in Windsor, Ontario, a musical suburb of Detroit ‘standing in the shadow
of Motown' and greatly influenced by its vibrant jazz, blues, R&B, and rock
scene. In addition to the big acts regularly passing through the Motor City, he
was fortunate to be able to see new 'local' groups, such as the Amboy Dukes (Ted
Nugent), the Stooges (Iggy Pop), Bob Seger, Brownsville Station, the Frost,
Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, and the MC5, that recurrently crossed the
river to play at high school dances and other venues in Windsor. He was given
his first guitar when he was 12 years old and formed a band later that same
year. He subsequently played with many groups in the area. |
